If Only...

If Only... (new version) 1998. The man has been turned into a statue by something like the Medusa of Greek myth. The woman is wishing that he hadn't looked... or that she'd looked as well. That's the literal meaning, anyway. If you want to get metaphorical, it's symbolic of the frustrations many women have in trying to get their partners to communicate with them. I thought of that some time after I had the idea for the picture, though. I don't usually go looking for "deep" meanings in my pictures. This is maybe because most of my pictures are illustrations for scenes in my stories, and any metaphors or symbols will be in the story, rather than the picture. Comments
