This page shows you what we're planning for the next few months. Events are on Monday evenings unless noted otherwise. See this page for details of where we meet.

Except where noted otherwise, there is a time limit of 15 minutes on all competition entries.

5 January 2004

Annual General Meeting including election of committee for 2004.

12 January

Film of the Year 2003 We choose the best film made by our members in 2003. This competition is open to any film that was placed first or second in any club competition in 2003.

Ben Simon and Shawn Lindsell very kindly agreed to judge the competition for us. After much deliberation over seven excellent entries, they announced the winner as Westonbirt International Festival of Gardens 2003, by Nigel Longman.

Members' Videos With discussion, advice and criticism.

What do judges look for? If you've ever been stung by a judge's criticism of your video (or even if you haven't), this presentation by Steve Pemberton about common mistakes will help you to improve.

Advice evening A chance to discuss any problems or questions about equipment and video-making in general, in small, informal groups.

Chicago - My Kind of Video Steve Pemberton and Breda Quirke give an illustrated talk about their recent holiday.

5 April

Wedding Videos Most people who own a camcorder have been asked to film a wedding at some time - and those who haven't probably will be. The plan tonight is to bring along five minutes of a wedding video that you feel turned out particularly well and discuss what worked and what didn't.

12 April

Easter Monday - No Meeting

19 April

Open Competition Make a video, about any subject, that lasts no more than five minutes. The judges will be looking out for videos that are especially comical - for the right reasons, of course!
The winner was Province Town, by Barbara and Peter Norman.

26 April

May Bank Holiday - No Meeting

Night Shots We investigate the creative possibilities of our camcorders' low-light and 0 lux shooting features.

17 May

Documentary Competition for the Dennis Edwards Shield Make a documentary, about any subject, that lasts no more than 15 minutes. A documentary is "based on real events, places, or circumstances and usually intended primarily to record or inform." (New Shorter Oxford English Dictionary). You may make a video about a place where you went for a holiday (see also the Holiday Competition, below).

Planning of Group Films To be made during the summer break.

Open Competition Make a video, about any subject, that is based on or inspired by a song or poem. (Note that this competition has moved from 21 June because of a BBC Band concert at Allum Hall on that date.)
The winner was The Wanderer, by Peter and Barbara Norman.

28 June

Open Evening As part of the town's Civic Festival, we invite the general public to a showing of some of our videos.

Summer Break

The club is closed during July and August, giving you more time to take advantage of the good weather to shoot lots of video.

An evening with Paul Fitzjohn Paul tells us about the challenges in videoing and editing a musical.

20 September

Holiday Competition for the Bert Dewdney Shield Make a video about your holiday, lasting no more than 15 minutes.

25 October

Visit from AKM Music This company sells CDs of music suitable for use in video soundtracks. Once you've bought a CD, you can use as much as you like in your videos without further payment.

1 November

Members' Videos With discussion, advice and criticism.

8 November

Open Competition Make a video, about any subject, that lasts no more than 20 minutes.
The winner was A Visit to Exbury Gardens, by Roy Osgood.

15 November

HACCA and Joe Kay Selection We decide which films to enter into these competitions.

Saturday 20 November

HACCA The 35th annual HACCA competition, to be held at Borehamwood.

22 November

Talk from Peter Norman Peter talks to us about his time as an employee of the BBC.
